ITV1 to screen new version of A Bouquet of Barbed Wire
Trevor Eve will head cast in Guy Andrews's adaptation of controversial incest drama from 1976
Actor Trevor Eve is to star in a modern reworking of Andrea Newman's steamy, taboo-busting 1970s psychological drama, A Bouquet of Barbed Wire, for ITV1. Adapted by Guy Andrews, whose credits include Lost In Austen and Prime Suspect, the three-part series will explore the consequences of a father's obsessive love for his daughter and "how secrets once buried in the past return to haunt their lives". Trevor Eve will play Peter Manson, whose apparently successful life is turned upside down when his teenage daughter Prue reveals she is pregnant by her teacher, Gavin Sorenson. Newman's book, first published in 1969, caused controversy when it was originally adapted for television by LWT for ITV in 1976 with its story of infidelity, lust and incest. A sequel, Another Bouquet, was made a year later. Clive James, in his Observer review of the first series, commented that "by the end everybody had been to bed with everybody else except the baby". The original ITV version starred Frank Finlay as Peter Manson, Susan Penhaligon as Prue, and James Aubrey as Sorenson. Commissioned by the ITV controller of drama commissioning, Sally Haynes, the new version will be made by independent production company Mammoth Screen, who recently produced ITV1's Wuthering Heights, and whose joint managing directors Michele Buck and Damien Timmer are overseeing ITV1/AMC's upcoming remake of The Prisoner. "It's a timeless, multilayered tale of a family torn apart by secrets from the past," said Haynes. "It created a stir during the 1970s when first produced for television, and 30 years on we're convinced a modern day audience will be just as intrigued by its themes of paternal jealousy and incestuous relationships." Timmer added: "The original TV version of A Bouquet of Barbed Wire was one of the most controversial dramas of its era, busting taboos which still have the power to shock decades later. Guy will bring a thrilling, modern sensibility to the story." Filming is scheduled for November, with broadcast due next year.

Framed: airs this August Bank Holiday!
The adaptation of Framed by Macmillan Children's author Frank Cottrell Boyce is to be broadcast on BBC1 this August Bank Holiday, with Trevor Eve and Eve Myles to star.
Set almost entirely in Wales, the drama tells the story of 10-year-old Dylan Hughes and his family's small petrol station; when his father leaves the family, it coincides with the arrival of a contingent from the National Portrait Gallery in London, who have brought paintings to Wales for safe-keeping after the gallery was flooded. The novel was inspired by the real-life practice during the Second World War of keeping paintings in Welsh mines. "Framed" was directed by Andy De Emmony, who has previously directed "Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story" and "God On Trial"; the producer is Richard Burrell and the executive producer Jessica Pope. "Framed" will be broadcast as a primetime feature-length dramatisation on BBC1 on Sunday 30th August.

Framed: Trailer & Spoiler
Trevor Eve and Eve Myles star in Framed, a brand new family drama for BBC One. When a secretive convoy of men and trucks start arriving in a remote Welsh village, the villagers discover that the National Gallery in London has been flooded and its priceless paintings are being sent to Wales for safe storage in the bowels of the old slate mine (just as they were during the Second World War). In charge of this operation is Lester, an intelligent but reserved curator who prefers paintings to people. That is until a funny and pivotal misunderstanding leads him to invite the local children to view the paintings inside the mountain, setting off an extraordinary chain of events that transform the lives of the villagers and, eventually, Lester himself. Framed is adapted by Frank Cottrell Boyce from his best-selling children's novel.

Frank Cottrell Boyce's "Framed" starring Trevor Eve

Before he became an acclaimed children's author, Frank Cottrell Boyce enjoyed a successful career as a film screenwriter. BBC crew takes over Sarratt Post Office
Sarratt Post Office underwent a temporary face lift this week as it starred in a hit BBC murder mystery drama. The Post Office, on the Green, was transported to the fictional village of Morbury for an episode of the award-winning Waking the Dead, scheduled to air in March. The series, starring Trevor Eve and Sue Johnston, features the Met police's Cold Cases Unit - set up to investigate old cases with state-of-the-art DNA technology. And despite heavy snow storms on Tuesday night film crews continues to let the cameras roll. Post mistress Pat Regan said: "It's not actually that unusual, they have filmed a lot of things around the village over the years as well as a few films. In this case they were filming a young lad flocking through magazines in the shop." Further details of the script, however, remain a closely guarded secret.
